Ugly Dumpling Boba & Drink Menu: Every Drink, Every Topping Explained

The drink menu at Ugly Dumpling is short, intentional, and designed to complement food — not just fill a cup. Here's everything on it and what pairs best with what.

Brown Sugar Boba Milk Tea

Brown Sugar Boba ($6.50) — this is our most ordered drink and one of the most recognizable boba presentations. House-brewed Assam black tea, fresh whole milk (not creamer), and tapioca pearls cooked in brown sugar syrup until they're almost caramelized. The syrup streaks down the inside of the cup in the characteristic tiger-stripe pattern. No additional sweetener needed.

Best pairing: XLB — the sweetness dials back the richness of the pork broth perfectly.

Taro Milk Tea

Taro Milk Tea ($6.00) — taro root powder blended with black tea and milk. The flavor profile is subtly nutty, mildly sweet, and creamy. The purple color is naturally derived from taro. This is a lighter drink than Brown Sugar Boba and slightly less sweet.

Best pairing: Kung Pao Chicken — the creaminess of the taro counterbalances the Szechuan spice.

Signature Milk Tea

Signature Milk Tea ($5.50) — our house blend of Assam and Ceylon tea, brewed strong, served over ice with whole milk. This is the classic Hong Kong-style milk tea experience. Simpler than the flavored options. Exceptionally drinkable alongside food.

Best pairing: Dim Sum — especially the Char Siu Bao and Crystal Shrimp Dumplings.

Matcha Milk Tea

Matcha Milk Tea ($6.00) — ceremonial grade matcha whisked into cold milk, sweetened lightly, served over ice. Earthy, slightly bitter, and rich. If you don't like bitterness, add brown sugar syrup (ask your server).

Best pairing: Sesame Noodles or Cucumber Salad — the grassy bitterness of matcha works well with sesame-forward flavors.

Mango Yakult Smoothie

Mango Yakult Smoothie ($6.50) — Alphonso mango purée blended with Yakult probiotic drink and crushed ice. This is the brightest, most acidic drink on the menu. Very refreshing. Not a milk tea — closer to a fruit smoothie in texture.

Best pairing: Anything spicy. The mango sweetness and Yakult acidity cut through chili heat extremely well.

Toppings Guide

All drinks can be customized with toppings: Tapioca pearls (+$0.75) — classic chewy texture, mild flavor. Coconut jelly (+$0.75) — light, refreshing, slightly tropical. Egg pudding (+$1.00) — silky, custard-like, adds richness. Aloe vera (+$0.75) — subtle sweetness, very light texture. Default recommendation: start without toppings to taste the base drink first.
